Home Security – Window Bars

Security bars, burglar bars and window bars are all terms used to describe a physical barrier installed over a window opening in order to discourage unauthorized entry by an unwanted party. They create a visual and a physical deterrent to home invasion. While most bars are not 100% burglar-proof, the time and effort required to compromise the barrier will likely outweigh the risk of trying to gain entry. Remember, a criminal wants to get in and get out as quickly and as quietly as possible. There are plenty of unprotected homes which provide an “easy target” for those committed to unlawfully enter.

It’s imperative to have a quick release mechanism in place to allow for easy and practical escape from the inside of the home. Do not utilize a lock that requires a key or combination to disengage the unit. The release mechanism should also be simple enough for a small child or an elderly person to operate. All family members should be trained to escape a variety of situations. Additionally, make sure the security bars are compliant with all local building codes.

Decorating in the Asian style is a real exercise in creating balance, tranquility and harmony among the items of daily living and nature. One of the most fundamental things to keep in mind is the Asian sensibility of incorporating simple beauty and utility, and a seamless transition from the thoughtfully spiritual to the every day elements of daily life.

Lighting can be very dramatic, utilizing candles, lanterns, Oriental type chandeliers that mix the look of twigs or bamboo, along with vintage hardware.

Another way to express yourself in this genre is to be minimalistic with a very monochromatic color scheme. Your background could be neutrals, possibly a very light celedon green.

Shogi screens, a potted ornamental tree, possibly a statuette of a deity or an ornate wooden chest could be the focal point in the room. Another nice touch would be to use fabric with a calligraphy type print in a room such as this to add texture and interest. Don’t forget the details, serve meals in simple earthenware square plates on tables covered with a very natural material such as brown paper. Add beauty to the table by floating blossoms in shallow dishes of water, ornate chop sticks and candles. Another way to capture an Asian flavor would be to have a collection of Oriental style trays which can be readily found in vintage stores and flea markets. Ginger jars, oriental bowls, oriental fans, origami art or paper umbrellas can also be affordable treasures that you might even enjoy collecting and displaying in every room of the house.

Whatever nuance you choose in this style will give you years of tranquility and satisfaction and hopefully a harmonious blend of aesthetics and utility.

Malt Supper Club, Perth, Australia – Review

Malt is Perth’s newest nightclub on Beaufort Street in Mt Lawley. After waiting five years for their license to be approved, we’ve all expected big things from this rather small venue. I took a look last Saturday night to see what Malt has to offer.

Decor says a lot about a venue, and the clientele a venue is trying to draw is usually in direct correlation with its interior layout. Malt takes the cake in this department. Malt does not hold back in the looks department at all. Considering they did take five years to get their license it is not surprising the decor had five years worth of planning put into it, and trust me it is truly second to none. Colourings range from blacks, to greys and charcoals. Feature walls are that of a high class nightclub with patterns of black and silver running throughout the venue. Foot rests are kept the features with red and gold suede, and shiny black bar stools matching the black glass bars. Very impressive!

Age is the real problem, or plus, depending on what you are looking for in a venue. Malt has exclusive age ratio of 25+. After talking with Tony the manager, this is not exclusive to your proof of age. This is however exclusive to your look. The bouncers are under strict regulation to let everyone pretty and of the look 25 in. No Paramount crowd will be found here. This nightclub is of the feel of Botanica or The Brisbane Hotel.

Drinks are reasonably priced between and for the usual for drinks in Perth. However cocktails can be ordered from – and are very impressive on the eye, and not a bad mix on the taste buds either.

The atmosphere is very exclusive. If you’re not wearing your newest Louis Vutton, Prada or Gucci attire, you may indeed find yourself a little out of place. I am personally surprised they have taken this stance on entry but it has definitely done them favors. The crowd does look great (I was contemplating how I had got in at this point) and by around midnight the party action starts to get into full swing. However, if you are a male in this venue and you’re not of the jock type that goes to the gym for breakfast lunch and dinner you may not fit in here. I was contemplating whether the extreme amount of mirrors were for the ladies or for the steroid bulging men to look at themselves in. Jokes aside, the venue is very classy so if you’re thinking of having a look, make sure you have a good shave fellas – and polish your shoes.

Overall I’d give Malt Supper Club 8 tips out of 10. It will be interesting to see if Malt can keep up its good reviews over the year. Malt is open from Wednesday night to Saturday night and watch out for its new Sunday sessions opening soon.

Illumination is the only thing that allows us to see what the environment looks like. It is the source of site, and as such, is a vital component of all visual arts. If you walk into an environment and the lighting is dim, this automatically adds a certain quality to the space. Generally darker areas will be quieter, and more relaxed. We go to sleep in the dark, we are built to rest at night, and so the human body automatically reacts to dark situations with laid back lethargy.

In brighter environments the effect will be opposite. Well lit spaces tend to make people more vigorous and active. You will always find the lighting in an office building bright and abundant.

Light also tends to make people more self conscious.

The more you can see, the more you can be seen, and this can cause some people to start worrying about how they appear. That’s is why bars, clubs, and parties are often only dimly illuminated; it is a way of helping people lower their guard and feel comfortable in the environment.

One thing to avoid when illuminating a space is going too far with light or darkness. Bathing a room in inky black will make it unusable, but making it so bright that it is irritating to the eyes is just as bad. You need to stay within the thin gradient of usable illumination for optimal effects.

Light is the source of sight. It makes everything in our lives visible. However it is more than just a way to see, illumination can actually effect how you see things, spaces, and people.

A Night Out In Killarney, Ireland

Killarney is a great place to visit not only for its beautiful scenery but also its buzzing night life. This beautiful town is visited by people from all over the world as there are so many places to go at night. Many people from outside of Killarney visit to celebrate birthdays, stags and hen nights as it is known as a great place all over the country.

Scotts bar is a great place to start your night; many locals and tourists visit here as staff and customers are very friendly and they occasionally has a live band. Also the Lane bar which is a part of the The Ross Hotel is popular as they serve cocktails here to your specifications; this bar is always very busy as it is a very stylish bar with great decor.
